Her Style: Classic with a twist
I love your use of prints. They’re an accent and a statement at once. I think of my style as pretty classic, but true to me. I also have a trendy, edgy side. I use prints to bring both sides together.
I can only describe your animal prints as “tasteful leopard.” You have no idea how happy that makes me. In basically every category of clothing I have one true, statement leopard piece—a leopard clutch, these shoes I’m wearing, a scarf, a sweater. I pull in those pieces when I have an otherwise more basic outfit.
Transitioning pieces between seasons: What are your tricks? I really like to play with colors and textures. I always love suede, and I’m going to play with velvet more. I’m all about balance—like today, I’m wearing really tight jeans and a huge blazer. I’m short and I have curves, so I need to find a way to not get completely swallowed, but to wear things that are on-trend—oversized, menswear, that kind of thing.
Texture makes a lot of sense; you pull off layering that isn’t wearing like 19 things. Exactly. I really try to go less-is-more when it comes to adding stuff on. I don’t have a lot of time to just be accessorizing. That’s not realistic for me. I have a 1-year-old who’s tugging on my stuff, so I have to be strategic.
If you could only have three items in your closet, what would they be? A great pair of jeans, for sure. A smart handbag—it’s something that can easily elevate any look. And then a good outerwear piece. Even if you only had those three things plus a Hanes men’s T-shirt, you could look really sharp.
