Meet the Makers: Sue Freudiger of Artisan’s Collective

In our November 2018 Shop Local issue, we explore greater Cincinnati neighborhoods while you check out dozens of retailers who can fulfill your closet, home, and recreational needs.

Why’d you open Artisan’s Collective? I was making things and it seemed really hard to get a spot in other shops, or they just wanted too big of a cut. I had an opportunity to get this building, so my fiancé and I decided to go for it.

You sell 35 artists’ products. We sell everything from bath products to fine art and everything in between. Aside from some vintage items, everything is handmade by local artists.

What do you make? I specialize in redoing furniture and making bath bombs. A lot of the furniture comes from thrift stores. We occasionally do dumpster diving. Those usually turn out to be the best pieces. People put a lot of really neat, old stuff in the garbage.
