What: A wicked good croissant. The real deal, not the frozen par-baked variety. Hand made, European style. A crisp amber shell that yields to buttery, flaketastic layers. Wow.
Who makes it: Executive Pastry Chef Russ Wheeler of Savor Catering, Newport, Ky.
Where you can get it: Both plain ($1.50) and chocolate ($2.75) are available at Coffee Emporium. At The Bistro (413 Vine St., Downtown), Chef Chris Burns fills Wheeler’s plain croissant with chicken salad for a classic luncheon sandwich. Any leftover croissants go into bread pudding. Hell. Yes.
