When Boosalis Baking opened in Kenwood this winter, many Cincinnatians rejoiced. The new spot, across the street from Kenwood Towne Centre, would save them repeated trips to Matt Boosalis’s original might-as-well-be-Dayton location in Centerville. Now the bakery is showing everyone in the Queen City why it was worth the drive. Aside from fresh-baked bread, Boosalis offers a plethora of goodies—pastries, scones, cookies, muffins, macaroons—but the most loyal customers are all about the croissants. The baker’s Kouign-Amann, which means “buttery cake” in the Breton language of Brittany, France, has “twice the richness of a regular croissant,” he says. “At our store in Centerville, we have above our door ‘Home of the Amazing Kouign-Amann’ because we sample it to [customers] and the first thing they say is, ‘That’s amazing.’” We’re sure Boosalis will need to add one of those signs to the Kenwood store, too.
