Although events look different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 19th annual Dress for Success Fashion Show is almost here and with even more features than previous years. The 2020 event, which will be held online on Thursday, September 17, will include live virtual fashion shows featuring Dress for Success client models wearing pieces from Portaluca Boutique and Saks Fifth Avenue models dressed in the latest styles. Plus, you can enjoy online shopping opportunities from downtown’s Saks Fifth Avenue and exciting raffles. So gather your girlfriends near and far to support the cause, and buy your tickets to participate in this year’s Virtual Dress for Success Fashion Show.

Even though attendees won’t be able to gather in person at Hard Rock (formerly JACK) Casino this year, event coordinators designed the virtual fashion show so you can host a small, socially distanced get together at your home, office, or virtually with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. “You’ll see the latest fashions and what’s coming up for fall and winter,” says Dress for Success Development Coordinator Tamia Stinson.

The fun doesn’t stop there, though—you can shop while you watch, too. “You will be able to interact with the people from Saks, and you can actually live click and buy.” Participants will receive a virtual party pack complete with party favors; suggestions for hors d’oeuvres, wine, and florals; and access to the exclusive preview of Saks’ fall fashions. Tech support will help navigate any issues, and ticket options include being a virtual table host, virtual patron, or virtual guest.

What is Dress for Success?

Launched in 1999 by Mary Ivers, Dress for Success Cincinnati is a nonprofit organization that empowers women to thrive in work and in life by providing networking opportunities, professional attire, and career development tools. “Any woman that is working on gaining, maintaining, or moving up in employment,” says Stinson, “we are here for them.” The organization inventories work attire appropriate for a variety of jobs, from scrubs to business suits.

Since the pandemic wreaked havoc on the economy causing layoffs and furloughed employees, the demand for networking and career support is expected to be higher than ever. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted women, especially women of color with an estimated 11.5 million without a job compared to only nine million  men. Due to reduction in capacity or closure at childcare facilities and other circumstances, women are most often the caretaker, Stinson says. To support clients through these difficult times, Dress for Success has supplemented its regular programming with many Facebook groups and virtual meet-ups about submitting resumes, self-care suggestions, and networking.
