Big things are happening at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati in 2022 and beyond! Just around the corner is the exciting, brand-new production of THE WIZ JR. This show has been adapted from the original Broadway show The Wiz to a 60-minute version that’s perfect for the little ones to enjoy. TCT’s own Resident Playwright and Artist, Deondra Kamau Means, helmed the creative adaptation process.
THE WIZ JR. infuses L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with a dazzling mix of rock, gospel, and soul music. Packed with iconic songs like “Ease On Down the Road” and “Brand New Day,” this musical includes exciting dance numbers which blend traditional movement from African culture with ballet, jazz, and modern dance.
TCT is thrilled to welcome an all-BIPOC staging team, helmed by Broadway director Zhailon Levingston with choreography by Tislarm Bouie. Rounding out the rest of the production team are some of Cincinnati’s most influential music educators and more Broadway caliber talent.
THE WIZ JR. opens at the Taft Theatre on April 2 and runs through April 11 with public performances on the weekends and school performances during the weekdays.
TCT’s upcoming season is packed full of adventure for the whole family. For the 2022–2023 season, the following four shows will come to the Taft Theatre stage:

“Our 2022–2023 Season promises thrilling storytelling and heartwarming family memories. We hear our fans loud and clear—Disney’s Descendants: The Musical will return! We had so many first-time theatergoers see a TCT show last season, we hope we can reach even more new families this year,” TCT Artistic Director Roderick Justice says.
