The groundhog blessed us with his meteorological predictions once more, so that means it’s officially February. Whether you want to start out the month celebrating the Japanese Setsubun Festival or enjoy an evening of bass clarinet, there’s something in town for you this week.


Monday February 5

Molly House Playtest

Tabletop game developer Wherligig Games wants you to help playtest their new game, Molly House. It is described by the developers as “A game of queer joy and betrayal in London” where you must hide identity from the 19th Century Society of Reformation for Manners. Superheroines, Etc. will run the testing and help provide feedback from players for Wherligig. 6:30-9 p.m., West Side Brewing, 3044 Harrison Ave., Westwood

Setusubun Festival

Welcome the dawn of springtime at the Setsubun Festival at the Bond Hill library. This Japanese celebration is observed around Lunar New Year and translates to “seasonal division.” The event will include traditional Japanese food, games, and crafts. 4-6 p.m., Bond Hill Library, 1740 Langdon Farm Rd., Bond Hill


Tuesday February 6

CCM Bass Clarinet Festival

Bass clarinet enthusiasts are heading to the Cohen Family Studio Theatre at CCM for the free bass clarinet festival. From 5-6:30 p.m. Amy Zoloto, bass clarinetist for the Cleveland Orchestra, will be teaching a master class. Then at 7:30 there will be a concert featuring other musicians including former bass clarinetist for the San Francisco Symphony, Ben Freimuth. 5-6:30 p.m. master class, 7:30 p.m. concert, Cohen Family Studio Theater, 290 CCM Blvd., Clifton

Ground Hog-Wild

Celebrate Groundhog Day for an entire week! The Sharon Center at Sharon Woods will be spotlighting these marmots during their special time of year. Warm-Up Wednesdays at Fretboard

Writing original music? Play it in front of the music-loving audience of Fretboard Brewing Company in Blue Ash. Every Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. you can take the stage for this long-running open mic night. If you intend to play music, original works are preferred over covers. Owl Prowl

Learn all about Owls with MetroParks of Butler County. You’ll walk the trails of Harbin Park at night on the lookout for the nocturnal birds after a short lesson about their night-vision skills. Literary Match-Making Event/Singles Mixer

Get ready for a blind date with a person and/or book. Downbound Books is hosting a mixer where you can find your next romantic and literary match. Off the Rails: Science of Love Edition

The fan-favorite 21+ after-hours event at the Cincinnati Museum Center is back. You’ll get to roam around your favorite exhibits and take part in some themed programming. This month’s theme is “The Science of Love,” so bring a date and learn all about your connection. There will be food provided as well as a cash bar.
