Kentucky Derby Weekend at Braxton Brewing
Celebrate the 151st Kentucky Derby with Braxton Brewing on Saturday, May 3, at all Braxton locations:
- At Braxton Covington, Molly Wellmann will be making mint juleps from 1 to 4 p.m. for the “Derby Day in the Taproom” event. Festivities include the Scarlet Begonias Flower Truck pop-up, a deejay, a photo booth, and best dressed, best couple, and hat contests.
- At Braxton Union, Bill Whitlow (formerly of Opal Rooftop Restaurant & Bar and Rich’s Proper Food & Drink) will be making mint juleps from 1 to 7 p.m. for the “Derby Party on the Lawn” event. Best hat, best couple, and best dressed contests will take place at 5 p.m. The KYLICCO Hat Bar will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help you create your best race-day look.
- At Braxton Barrel House, guests can celebrate the occasion with their favorite Braxton beers and classic Derby cocktails like mint juleps, Old Fashioneds, and the Oaks Lilly. Live music from Nylon Leather & Lace starts at 7 p.m.
Drink Sake at Jungle Jim’s
Explore the world of Japanese sake at Jungle Jim’s Tasting Bar from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at the grocery store’s Fairfield location (5440 Dixie Highway). During the two-hour event, attendees will learn more about the traditional drink of Japan. Wristbands, available to purchase the day of the event, are $20. Click here for more details.
Rock Out with Rocktails Authors
Local mixologists and Kristen Kreft and Mayalou Banatwala, authors of Cincinnati Rocktails: An Amped Up Spin on Mixology, join forces to examine musical connections to the Queen City at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at The Carnegie in Covington. The audience will sip curated cocktails and mocktails based on musicians such as James Brown, Rosemary Clooney, and The Isley Brothers. Tickets are $18-$45. Click here for more information.
Losanti Expands to Columbus
Crown Restaurant Group recently announced that it’s opening a second location of its Italian steakhouse, Losanti, in Columbus later this year. The new spot will be at 500 W. Broad Street in the Gravity development. Much like the original location in Over-the-Rhine, the menu will offer its signature dishes like prime filet Oscar-style and truffle pasta as well as seasonal specials.
Taste of Belgium’s National Bike Month Special
May is National Bike Month and Taste of Belgium has teamed up with Red Bike for its second annual fundraising campaign. A portion of sales from Taste of Belgium’s red velvet waffles will go to Red Bike for the entire month. Four-packs of the waffles are available for purchase at all Taste of Belgium Cincinnati locations and online for $13 per pack with $2 from each sale going directly to Red Bike. Celebrate the month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Taste of Belgium’s Banks bistro.
