Delwood nails what we love best: a small menu with thoughtful dishes and creative takes, executed to perfection, in a delightful space. Fusion is too cheap a word for what they’re doing, but consider it the best pub food you’ve had in ages, with some serious—and studied—Latin American flair. Aji amarillo, a yellow chili pepper essential to Peruvian cuisine, pops up on the menu a lot, for example, in the dipping sauce served alongside the plantain tostones and yuca fries, which elicited a few four-letter words of awe. The list of standouts is basically the length of the menu, but the guacamole is a must; ditto the spicy fried chicken sandwich, with rocoto pepper aioli and salsa criolla.

Beyond the food, Delwood is attentive to its Mt. Lookout locale, offering a pup-friendly patio and welcoming kids, with a kids’ menu upon request. All the better for parents, especially when you factor in the 4–6 p.m. happy hour with $6 shareable plates and $6 cocktails. Speaking of: We may not need any drink in the world besides their paloma, a Mexican staple made with tequila and fresh grapefruit, but we branched out and tried the pisco sour, a Peruvian cocktail with its namesake liquor and egg whites that, in its coupe glass and dotted with bitters, looks as smooth as it tastes.
