Cincinnati Weekend Picks May 8-10

This weekend is packed with events all over town from concerts to tattoo conventions to butterfly balls. Go check some of them out, and maybe consider bringing your mom for a Mother’s day outing. Who knows, maybe the gift she’s always wanted is some fresh ink.


Cincinnati Tattoo Arts Festival

Villain Arts’ annual tattoo festival is back at the the First Financial Center with more than 200 local and international tattoo artists doing both custom and flash pieces. There will also be live entertainment, including tattoo competitions and circus performances. Admission for one day is $20 or $40 for the whole weekend. Destination Monarch Butterfly Ball

Krohn Conservatory is throwing a semi-formal ball to celebrate the opening of this year’s Butterfly Show, Destination Monarch. Attendees will get to explore the Krohn after hours, be some of the first members of the public to see Destination Monarch, and enjoy drink from Esoteric Brewing and light bites from Maw Maw’s Creole Kitchen. Smoke on the River BBQ Fest

Fresh barbecue and live music will take over the Newport Festival Park. Some of the area’s best pitmasters and southern-style cooks will be making exclusive dishes for the weekend alongside tunes from groups like the Michelle Robinson Band, the Kenny Welch Band, and Southern Fried. Juvenile Concert

Rapper Juvenile is bringing his Boiling Point album release tour to Bogart’s. The artist best known for songs like “Back That Azz Up”, “Slow Motion”, and “Rodeo” will be joined by The 400 Degreez Band. Great Parks Pollinator Festival & 5K

Miami Whitewater Forest is becoming pollinator central with a family-friendly 5K (admission is $40), interactive educational programming including a butterfly garden, crafts, games, and storytimes, live entertainment including music from DJ Big Juicy Ham and the Mama Said String Band, live cooking tutorials, a vendor market, local food trucks, and much more. The 55th Annual Appalachian Festival

New Richmond’s celebration of Appalachian culture returns with traditional music and dance performances, mountain cuisine, storytellers, Appalachian artisan crafts, a living history village, live moonshine demonstrations, Native American drum circles, and much more. Spring Crafty Supermarket

Reds Abilities at Bat Night

The Cincinnati Reds are highlighting and celebrating the city’s disabled community with a special event featuring an on-field parade, a pre-game ceremony, jumbotron shoutouts, special seating, promotional giveaways, and a ceremonial first pitch. Afroman Concert
