If you’re looking to expand your horizons in the new year, why not seek out some of Cincinnati’s fun weekday activities? By the second week of January you could be a book-loving ghost hunter who beat Cam Taylor-Britt at bowling.

 


 

MONDAY JANUARY 1

First Day of 2024 Hike at Mt. Airy Forest

Cincy Hikes wants you to join them for the first hike of the year. It will be an intermediate hike on a moderate path around eight miles long. Get ready for a scenic route on your first morning of 2024. Hikers will meet up at Everybody’s Treehouse before embarking. 10 a.m., Everybody’s Treehouse, 1212 Trail Ridge Rd., Mt. Airy 

Urban Axes New Year’s Day Marathon League

Start your year as an axe-throwing champion. On New Year’s Day, Urban Axes hosts their Premier Rules Marathon League. Players will compete head-to-head all day to be crowned winner with cash prizes going to the top three. Get your throwin’ arms ready. 10 a.m.- 8 p.m., Urban Axes, 2010 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine


 

TUESDAY JANUARY 2

Young Adventurers Guild

The Young Adventurer’s Guild at the Covington Library is a group dedicated to helping kids learn the rules and develop the skills to become great Dungeons and Dragons players. While they request registration before coming, all kids aged 10 to 16 are welcome to join the quest. They may run their own campaign one day. 4-6 p.m., Covington Library, 502 Scott Blvd., Covington

Third Annual Orange and Black Bowling Bash

Strikes for Kids, a nonprofit that partners NFL teams with local Boys and Girls Clubs, will be hosting the Third Annual Orange and Black Bowling Bash at The Main Event in West Chester. This year, Bengals cornerback Cam Talyor-Britt will be taking part in the festivities. The fundraiser will include a silent auction, a raffle, a toy giveaway, and of course, bowling. Join your fellow book enthusiasts for dinner and drinks at Nicholson’s Fine Food and Whisk(e)y. On the first Wednesday of every month, the Cincinnati Public Library hosts the Beer and Books club for people to discuss what they’re reading in a more fun setting. The Blue Wisp Big Band

Puppy Tales

Dogs are the best reading partners. They’re nice and quiet and love to keep you company. At the Erlanger Library, kids 5-12 will have the chance to read with therapy dogs. NKU vs Youngstown State Basketball Game

This week the Northern Kentucky University Norse men’s basketball team will be taking on the Youngstown State Penguins at Truist Arena. As it stands currently, both teams are undefeated in the Horizon League but the Penguins have a better overall record. Will the Norse pull off the win? Music Hall Ghost Tours

Cincinnati Arts Association wants to take you on a spooky historical tour of Music Hall. The local landmark is said to be haunted by many spirits from throughout the ages and you can experience them up close.
