The Crown Jewel, stuffed with Graeter’s black raspberry chip flavor, is the ice cream–filled doughnut hybrid we’ve been waiting for.

Hot coffee and doughnuts don’t tend to draw people into bakeries during the sweltering summer heat. Busken Bakery’s solution? Add ice cream. The bakery opened its very first food truck at its Hyde Park flagship this summer, featuring its latest invention, Halo Donuts: 11 flavors of heavenly hot-pressed doughnuts, including two filled with Graeter’s ice cream.

Hometown dream duo, Busken and Graeter’s, have created what might be the holy grail—or at the very least the Crown Jewel, which is what they’re calling it. This glazed doughnut, filled with the creamery’s undeniably popular flavor, black raspberry chip ice cream, makes for a chocolately warm-and-cool combination.

The Piggy-licious, one of the premium “signature” flavors, features Graeter’s maple cinnamon crunch ice cream enveloped in a doughnut and topped with candied bacon, maple syrup, and cinnamon sugar.

The food truck also offers glazed doughnuts filled with classic flavors, like the Green Lantern, with mint chocolate chip, and the Spoiled Rotten, featuring United Dairy Farmers mainstay Blue Moo Cookie Dough—both are kid favorites.

The Halo Donuts food truck will remain parked outside Busken Bakery’s Hyde Park location for the rest of the summer. Dan Busken, president and CEO of Busken Bakery, says they will be looking for a different theme to serve customers in the coming fall.
