Much like Over-the-Rhine went through its massive transformation, Covington too is experiencing a revival, from Madison Avenue’s beloved eateries and shops to new hot spots popping up in MainStrasse Village. And smack in the middle of it all sits this historic three-story Italianate home.

Built in 1883, the four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath reno is located on the corner of Russell and West Ninth streets in Old Seminary Square. The home’s modern vibe starts in our favorite room: the kitchen. The sleek space offers old-world charm with its high ceilings, a simple tile backsplash, and rustic exposed brick. To give it a little 21st-century flair, the space showcases swanky updates like a stunning chandelier, high-end Viking appliances, an eat-in granite island, and a wine cooler. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious dining room with a funky starburst light fixture that ties the two spaces together. And on the other side of the stairs, the living room features cobalt blue walls and an operable gas fireplace for chilly winter nights.

Upstairs, you’ll find two bedrooms on the second floor and two more on the third, but even the stairwell is worth noting—its original wainscoting and intricate details were perfectly preserved. The master suite, located on the second floor, is impressive in size, especially for an older home. It features a spacious bedroom and walk-through closet that leads to a gorgeous neutral-toned master bath with a clawfoot shower/tub, tile floor, and a double vanity.

While the home certainly boasts modern amenities, it’s clear that preserving original details was made a priority during the renovation process. This is evidenced by the professionally preserved wood-framed windows in every room. Plus, the home features original hardwood floors throughout and a total of five decorative fireplaces.

Outside, the recently upgraded back patio reminds us of a serene Tuscan-style garden. It’s sectioned off for privacy with concrete walls and features brick pavers, a gravel garden, and a mature tree. The cherry on top? The home is just a short walk from all that Covington has to offer.
