Blank Slate Brewing’s Pourhouse Turns 1

“Orchids Bloom,” a French-style saison brewed with coriander and hibiscus, was the first of four seasonal brews created by Blank Slate Brewery and Orchids. The two companies are working together on their second brew, which will be on tap in July.

To celebrate the first anniversary of the Blank Slate Brewing Company Pourhouse, Scott LaFollette is throwing a party this Saturday. Not an unusual move, but what elevates this party is that it serves double duty—it’s also the release party for Blank Slate’s Opera Cream, a seasonal beer brewed with The BonBonerie’s Opera Cream Coffee Blend. (Which is a relief to beer lovers who aren’t into the sugary sweetness of the opera cream cake.)

Special versions of Opera Cream and other Blank Slate beers will be tapped throughout the day—including a Cranberry Out and About, Black Tea Fume, and Habanero/Pineapple Lesser Path—food from Dilly Café and The BonBonerie (of course) will be on offer, and there’s music all day from Stono Rebellion, Love Train, and We R Us.

We were curious about one of the beers on the list, On Top Of All This My Wife’s Pregnant. LaFollette tells us that yes, it’s a real beer (a rye session stout), and yes, his wife is due with their first child in about two months. “The name seemed fitting since we are extremely busy at the brewery right now with planning this event and working on the facility expansion at the same time,” he says. So go ahead and order one—and offer your congratulations to the expanding LaFollette family.

The festivities kick off at noon Saturday, November 21, at the Pourhouse (4233 Airport Rd., near Lunken), and you can get more information (including a handy map with tips for alternate parking spots, since the Pourhouse’s lot is so tiny) at the event’s Facebook page.
