Moerlein Malt House Taproom

1125

Hometown hero Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. was founded in 1853 and soared to the heights of Over-the-Rhine’s brewing industry until Prohibition took its toll. The brewery had been shuttered for years when new age beer baron Greg Hardman engineered a thrilling comeback in 2004. The brand became one of the trailblazers on Cincinnati’s emerging beer frontier, and it hasn’t looked back.

The riverfront Lager House is Moerlein’s public face, but the OTR-based brewery and Malt House Taproom is where the real work gets done. The subterranean taproom is a charming artifact of days gone by, but the city-centric beers (we love the Over-the-Rhine Ale) on 12 rotating taps and cheeky Wienerwurst Mike “Frankfurtary” (a sideline menu of hotdogs and soft pretzels) make Christian Moerlein shiny and new. 1621 Moore St., Over-the-Rhine, (513) 827-6025, christianmoerlein.com
