It may still be 40 degrees outside, but the Root Beer Stand is officially open for the summer. The stand began life as an A&W Root Beer outpost in 1957 on Rt. 25 (Cincinnati-Dayton Road), then the main pre-interstate thoroughfare from Michigan to Florida. In 1982, the A&W franchise expired, but the Sharonville business didn’t miss a beat. Each season, the family-owned and operated stand serves up root beer by the pitcher or frosty glass mug alongside foot-long chili dogs, griddle burgers, pulled pork BBQ, and plenty of popcorn. In the heat of the summer, local families crowd the outdoor picnic tables slurping down root beer floats while the kids swing from the on-site jungle gym. Business can be brisk, so call ahead for carryout. And while it’s still cash only, there is an ATM on site. Long live the Root Beer Stand.
