Be a Tourist for the Day with These Walking Tours

Yeah, we know, the summer has been hot. But Hulu binge-watching weather will be here soon enough, and you’ll be pining for that sun and humidity—so get out and walk around town while you still can.

Tracking Our Brewing Heritage
Cincinnati has a long, storied history when it comes to beer, at one point hosting an absurd number of pubs per capita. The Brewing Heritage Trail introduces you to that legacy in a liver-friendly fashion. A devoted crew has been working since 2006 to make the trail a reality, and the first physical segment opens next month. Hop to it and grab a map to DIY, download the app for an audio tour, or sign up for one of seven guided tour options. brewingheritagetrail.org

The Art of Touring
Summer in this city means scaffolding hoisting up high schoolers with paintbrushes, followed by the sudden appearance of art on a building exterior. At this point there are more than 50 murals in downtown and OTR alone, so you’re forgiven for losing track. Volunteers and those youth apprentices can take you on weekend tours—with behind-the-scenes stories—through October, or schedule a private tour anytime. artworkscincinnati.org/muraltours

Newport’s Wages of Sin
They sell it by saying, “Explore the streets where the mob made their millions, gamblers lost their lives, and ladies of the night earned their reputations,” and frankly we’re not sure how to improve on that. Starting inside an old casino, you’ll be transported back to Newport’s bygone world of gaming, speakeasies, and other vices. Give the Brass Ass a nod for carrying the torch. americanlegacytours.com/newport-gangster-tour
