If you want to celebrate African American independence this Juneteenth, there are a number of Cincinnati celebrations for you. The holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, the date when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed that all slaves in Confederate states were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. This Juneteenth, honor African American freedom and excellence at these local events.

This all-day celebration in Eden Park is perfect for everyone in the family. The festival features live music on two stages, historical re-enactments, and an activity-packed children’s area. Cincinnati Official Juneteenth Parade
Cincinnati Official Juneteenth Parade will bring together passionate individuals for a celebratory procession through the West End. The parade’s theme this year is “Legacy,” celebrating African American stories and the importance of diversity and inclusivity for the future.

Free Peoples Party ‘A Black House Experience’
If you’re searching for a nighttime event this Juneteenth, look no further than Free Peoples Party’s “A Black House Experience.” OTR cocktail spot Lost & Found is partnering with WARMTH Culture, a Black and queer femme-led music collaborative, to host a night of R&B, hip–hop, and house music. The event starts at 8 p.m. with local POC, LGBTQIA+, and women performers in celebration of Juneteenth.
