Amber Sporleder has been a Bengals fan “since always,” so naturally, when the football team beat the Tennessee Titans last weekend to clinch a spot in the upcoming AFC championship game, she was stoked.

“I’ve been seeing all of my favorite bakeries posting their Bengals-themed desserts all over the internet over the last two week,” says Sporleder, owner of Queen City Cotton Candy. “After the win against the Titans, I knew this would be the perfect time for me to get involved and try out my cakes.”

Her “cakes”? Six layers of white and orange cotton candy topped with a brown and orange sprinkle mix and cotton candy letters that spell out “WHO DEY.” For $30, you can order one for pickup at The Little Spoon Bakery & Café at Newport on the Levee on Friday, Jan. 28, and Saturday, Jan. 29—just in time for this Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’ve been dying to create a cotton candy cake for a couple of months now,” Sporleder explains. “There are so many fun things you can do with cotton candy.”

The Rising Sun, Indiana, native started her business in fall 2020, a couple of years after graduating from Northern Kentucky University. She offers 20-plus flavors, including classics like pink vanilla and blue raspberry as well as “adult friendly” flavors such as Caramel Bourbon and Sparkling Wine. She makes fully customizable party favors for events and weddings, does pop-ups at local markets, and even has a cotton candy cart that’s available for event rentals.

Sporleder says the “Who Dey” cake was one item on a long list of products and flavors she wants to try out.

“I’m always testing out new ones,” she adds. “I’m always looking for creative ways to expand Queen City Cotton Candy.”
