The coffee and wine bar founded by Tony and Austin Ferrari began as a way for the brothers to give back to their mother, Theresa (whose likeness appears in the coffeehouse’s logo). The thoughtful gesture takes the form of a family-run café that serves specialty coffees and teas, an all-day menu of sweet and savory light bites, and pastries by Mochiko and North South Baking Co.

Stepping into the shop, located in a charming old house, you’re greeted by a friendly barista who’s ready to give a knowledgeable recommendation. With ample seating, no shortage of outlets, and private nooks, Mom ’n ’em is a popular public work spot for freelancers and side-hustlers and transitions easily into a laid-back early evening hangout (they close things up at 6).

Live music (monthly, usually on Fridays) sets the post-workday mood, as does an impressive rotating wine menu and beers and handcrafted cocktails. The sweet and frothy honey latte pairs perfectly with the almond butter and banana “toastie,” which joins the popular avocado, cinnamon sugar, and anchovy versions. As for evening snacks, we heartily recommend diving into the tinned seafood (sardines, mussels, squid, mackerel, et al.), served with toasted Allez Bakery bread, caper berries, and lemon wedges. Just add chardonnay, and your day-to-night transition is complete.
