When Haven Café closed its doors in Covington in last fall, it wasn’t “goodbye” as much as it was “see you later.” Nearly a year has passed and the shop reopened across the river in Oakley over Labor Day weekend.

“The first few weeks in our new space have been nothing short of wonderful,” says Owner Sabyle Zeringis. “We are so grateful for the support from the community, both during the closure and the short time we’ve been reopened.”

The interior is minimalistic: simple furniture, a white and beige color scheme with pops of green from various houseplants, and exposed brick. This contrasts with the bold and unique food and drink options you’ll find on the menu. All the syrups are made in-house, and all the ingredients used are organic.

“We know the difference that [high quality ingredients] make in how items taste and how they make you feel,” Zeringis says. “We’re passionate about offering reimagined classics without the junk.”

The Cinny Toast Crunch Latte—topped with, you guessed it, cereal—is the leveled-up version of an original creation from Haven’s first location. Using a blend of syrups, your choice of local milk, espresso, and an A2 whipping cream, this drink is sure to please any latte lover.
If you’re feeling even more adventurous, the lemon pound cake matcha tastes like dessert in a cup. Lemon pound syrup, milk, matcha, a tangy A2 whipping cream, and cookie crumble come together to create a one-of-a-kind drink. “It’s been known to convert self-proclaimed matcha haters to lovers,” Zeringis says.

Fans of Haven know that it doesn’t mess around with its breakfast sandwiches (“sammies”). Served on a fresh, doughy English muffin, it comes with an over easy egg, cheese, bacon, and spicy mayo. Vegetarians can order the veggie option and swap out the bacon for avocado.

So, what’s next for Haven? In addition to constantly creating new drinks and improving the current menu, Zeringis hopes to expand to include more baked goods like sourdough doughnuts. Sister shop Haven Spa will also be opening in the same space and will offer natural nail services and holistic skincare, this time to the full intention as planned in Covington.

In addition, pop-ups with other local businesses will be hosted periodically.
As the café hires more staff and gets into the swing of things, customers can check its Instagram bio to find the daily hours.
