A stylish basement bar makes staying at home better than a night out on the town. That was the thinking behind this Anderson Township space, designed by Amy Youngblood, designer and owner of Amy Youngblood Interiors. “The wife wanted the space to be as moody and dark and as clubby as possible,” Youngblood says.
This isn’t your grandparents’ home bar. Part of this space’s sophistication comes from the deep, rich, fully saturated shades. The dark palette creates a stylish contrast with the crisp white ceiling, which anchors the design and instantly elevates this at-home watering hole into the toast of the neighborhood. “The bar is a real departure from other homes in the area,” says Youngblood. “You might see this style in posh bars and trendy restaurants, but rarely if ever in a home.”
As a young couple with young kids, the homeowners wanted a convenient space for themselves and close friends (the bar can easily accommodate 10) to relax and unwind. Instead of a hotel lounge or wine bar, the homeowners can get the party started under their own roof.
PUTTING ON THE RITZ
To create high-end luxury touches, Youngblood arranged for a backlit bar wall that casts a luminous glow for crafting cocktails. “Low lighting is important for creating a chic but inviting atmosphere,” she says.
COZY CORNER
A custom-made walnut bar top rivals real bars in terms of its size. Here, family and friends can meet for a round of drinks while playing board games or entertaining the kiddos.
DAPPER SPEAKEASY
Youngblood leaned into the basement’s speakeasy quality—but with a dapper twist. Darkened nickel cabinet pulls offer some glam, and black leather barstools with rolled arms bring in comfort.
DARK MODE
Moody hues abound from floor to ceiling. Midnight black paint drenches the walls, while matte black backsplash tiles usher in a dash of mystery and intrigue while creating a low-key focal point.
