Top 5 Wine Shops

Cincinnati is a beer-loving town and we’ve got an army of bearded brewers to prove it. Want to swap that stein for a stem? Shop these five spots where winers are always welcome.

1.  Hyde Park Gourmet Food & Wine
Getting married? Forget china and flatware and register for wine! Owner Evelyn Ignatow is a second-level certified sommelier and she can help turn your wine wish list into wedding gifts. The shop also offers free gift-wrap and, in some cases, free local delivery. They also ship out of town, where permissible.

2. Wine Cellar Outlet
Located in Longworth Hall, the Wine Cellar Outlet touts boutique wines at outlet prices. If you missed their Black Friday in July sale, don’t despair: You’ll get a second chance in November. Sign up for email alerts on their website, thewinecellaroutlet.com to stay on top weekly promotions.

3. Wine Dog
Welcome to cyber wine. Last summer, Ralph Taylor launched winedog.com, an online wine retailer based in Anderson. Call, text, or email your order and the site delivers to your doorstep (orders of $100 or more are delivered free if you’re within 15 miles of I-275 and Ohio Pike; delivery is $5.00 per every 15 miles beyond that). They also ship to 38 states.

4. Water Tower Fine Wines
Tucked into the shadow of the Mt. Washington water tower, this cozy wine shop, owned by David and Jan Lazarus, features Friday night tastings and house made pizza and wine pairings on Saturday afternoons from 12:30-5 p.m. This Friday, WTFW’s tasting will spotlight Sauvignon Blancs from around the world.

5. Unwind
The best way to face Monday is with a preemptive strike. Super Wine Sundays at this Hyde Park wine bar (with its oh so inviting courtyard) feature a ½-price wine bottle list from 4– 11 p.m. And, if you think wine lover equals fusty snob, then head over on Saturday, July 23 when DJ Thin Man returns for “Rewind at Unwind,” where you can dance to ’80s hits from 8 p.m.–1 a.m.
