Less than a year after husband-and-wife duo Hydrangea Home Design brought this renovated Victorian beauty back to life in Northside, they’re back with another rehabbed home currently on the market in Evanston.

Shortly after purchasing the 1898 five-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom home last March, Marcus and Alyssa Muffet learned that the house was once a recording location for several Cincinnati jazz artists. Thoughtful historic restoration was top of mind for the couple, who had their work cut out for them.

From original pocket doors and intricate molding to the three-story staircase and numerous fireplaces, the goal was to keep the home’s historic roots intact while adding modern elements throughout. The front of the home got a fresh coat of paint and a contemporary railing was added to the front porch for an exterior facelift. There’s plenty of room for the new owners to accessorize the porch with furniture and add decor to match the blue-green front door—a pop of color that beautifies the facade of the home.

When you walk in, the spacious entry is brightly lit and painted a calming, neutral shade that makes the restored woodwork sparkle. Luxury vinyl plank floors are laid throughout the entire first floor, warming up the white staircase and molding details.

In the living room, built-ins offer storage and ample styling opportunities with open shelving and a fireplace that anchors the space. Through a set of pocket doors, the kitchen and dining room are straight ahead. A hunter green mantle and wall feature breaks up the two spaces and a set of windows overlooks the side yard.

In the kitchen, bright white cabinets and a slick tile backsplash create a crisp vibe that lets the countertops and island speak for themselves. Stainless appliances and a trendy green hood that matches the island add a luxe touch. Through a set of wooden doors, the laundry room is spacious with loads of storage, cubbies, cabinets, and shelving with a door that leads out back.

Upstairs, the bedrooms are cozy and well-appointed. In the primary suite, there’s a fireplace and a dreamy bathroom that adjoins. Marcus and Alyssa hopped on the bathtub-in-the-walk-in-shower trend and executed it perfectly with gorgeous green and patterned tiles.

The rest of the bedrooms feature similar design details, but a star of the home is the back porch and yard. The flat backyard is the perfect size to grow a garden, arrange a fire pit, or for the kids to play.

But the adorable deck with a trellis that hangs above is the ultimate spot to string twinkle lights or grow hanging plants. We’re already dreaming of a fall-themed porch!
