Bridgetown Finer Meats is everything you want in a neighborhood market—quality products, great service, and local flavor. It’s the store your grandparents would’ve shopped, but it’s no fossil; behind the hand-painted storefront windows you’ll encounter a bright, well-stocked space with an energetic vibe.
Co-owner Mike Flickinger (with Rob Bleh, Richard Hoehn, Brian Brogan, and Mark Bender) says the 34-year-old butcher shop and market thrives on a mix of customer favorites and new products. The kitchen team fogs the windows every Monday making the 1,800 twice-baked potatoes they’ll sell in a week; other faves include a turkey salad like Mom would make post-Thanksgiving, house-smoked ribs, and top-of-the-line beef. BFM works with a Brookville, Indiana, farmer who raises beef to their specifications; customers who buy a full or half-side of beef get first dibs, and what’s left is seasonally available in the meat case. Among BFM’s innovations: an assortment of monster gourmet burgers dubbed the Bearcat, the Bengal, and new this season, the Choo (with blackened, Cajun, and Asian flavors, respectively). BFM caters to serious home cooks thanks to a case full of fresh produce and a wine selection curated by manager Larry Emley (who hosts Friday tastings), and to folks who want to grab prepared food for a quick dinner. With Meijer and Kroger stores nearby, Flickinger says BFM succeeds on hard work and service.
“We keep our nose to the grindstone,” he says. “Anyone can sell you a steak. We want to be the best.”
