In the back of Yottaquest game store, guarding the role-playing and LARP equipment, you’ll find Strategios Yottazar, the 45-foot silver dragon. The mythical behemoth was originally built in 2022 by pediatrician Evan Yeung and a team of volunteers for Hyde Park United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School. “The theme was ‘Knights of the North Castle’ and as a bit of a gaming nerd I thought that a full-sized dragon would be a perfect project for the theme,” says Yeung. “We didn’t want all of our work to wind up in a landfill, so I talked with my friends at Yottaquest who graciously accepted it for their store as a donation.”
Yottazar was added to the store as part of an expansion that made more room for Dungeons and Dragons–related items. According to co-owner Matthew Fay, Yottazar watches over the shop and brings a positive energy as silver dragons in D&D are the guardians of kids and small creatures. “It adds an unexpected fun element and it’s got some magic,” says Fay. “Everybody, young or old, loves the dragon. It really is something else to see it smiling at you.”
