Have you thought about pursuing an MBA, but aren’t ready for the two-year commitment? The Miami University miniMBA is for you. It’s taught by the same Farmer School of Business faculty as the full MBA, with the same rigor, and same course quality condensed into five online courses. You’ll learn skills in each of the key business areas including leadership, entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, and finance. Whether you’re a new graduate or a working professional, the convenience of the program allows you to register and take the courses at your own pace. There’s no required meeting times, and the whole program costs $799 (when purchased as a package; individual courses are $175 each), which includes a digital badge once you finish the program. “[The] miniMBA allows working professionals to advance their business acumen quickly, conveniently, and with less out-of-pocket expense,” says Miami University Professional Education Program Manager Kristine Smith. “It provides foundational MBA content students can implement immediately while also preparing them to succeed in a full MBA program if they choose.”

Janine Watkins, vice president for people and culture and chief human resources officer at Denison University, took advantage of the convenience. “The program is well designed for a busy individual [and] I was able to study when and where my schedule permitted,” says Watkins. “As an auditory and visual learner, the videos were engaging and offered me the opportunity to listen and learn from experts living the subjects they discussed.” The program provided Watkins with the foundation to serve as a strategic partner to senior leaders when developing strategic plans and setting business goals. “I was able to quickly set realistic goals for developing and implementing strategies that better align the success of human resources practices with operational and financial goals,” adds Watkins.

miniMBA Curriculum

Five individual modules touch on the spectrum of business themes. The entire course prepares students for the ever-changing business world, covering topics like crisis communication, leading through unexpected change, and implementing research-based strategies.

Topics covered include:

  • Executive judgment and decision making
  • Innovation and management
  • Financial acumen
  • Inclusion and belonging
  • Enhancing market presence

Cost

Each course costs $175 and the full program is $799.
