Founded in 1937, Mayfield is a nationally known independent neurosurgery practice, meaning surgeons operate at multiple hospital locations. In 2025, Mayfield treated a record 36,601 patients. The practice is experiencing one of its largest growth years in 2026, with a neuro-oncologist and three neurosurgeons joining this year.

Mayfield surgeons and providers treat:
- Spine disorders: “We offer the entire suite of spine treatments, beginning with nonsurgical options like physical therapy, extending to outpatient surgeries to ease pressure on spinal nerves, and including complex scoliosis or spinal deformity surgery to strengthen and stabilize multiple layers of a patient’s spine,” Dr. Michael Kachmann says.
- Brain tumors: “We create a personalized plan for patients with brain tumors,” Dr. Yair Gozal says. “Options can include radiation or open surgery, and we also serve patients who have malignant tumors with chemotherapy and other medical therapies.”
- Neurovascular disorders, including strokes and brain aneurysms: “Every minute matters when a patient is having a stroke, and our mobile neurovascular team is ready near you with expertise in endovascular treatment where we access a blockage in a brain artery and pull it out,” Dr. Andrew Ringer says.

Mayfield continues to add services and access points for patients. The practice offers physical therapy at all six patient offices and interventional pain treatment at several offices—plus the Mayfield Spine Surgery Center for outpatient procedures, overlooking I-71 in Norwood.
