NEW RESTAURANT FOR ALEX MCHAIKHI AND OWEN MAASS
The owner of Cumin, Alex Mchaikhi, and his Executive Chef Owen Maass are opening a second restaurant next door. To be called M (inspired by the first letter of their surnames), the more rustic casual restaurant will be focused around a wood-fired oven and feature a small plate and family style menu, craft beers and cocktails, and some snappy hand crafted sodas. Expected to open mid-summer, look for extended hours (including late night food service) seven days a week, and a lively outdoor dining area. A taste of the menu:
$6 small plates : Tomato marmalade + black garlic aioli + fresh cheese
$8 small plates: Wood-roasted Brussels sprouts + parmesan + ricotta + truffle
$8 Salads: Wood-roasted Caesar salad
$12 Pizzas: House made sausage + smoked mozzarella + apple salad
Entrees: Wood-roasted Hill Farms chicken + mascarpone heirloom polenta + reduction of chicken $14 per person
Dessert: Housemade soft serve ice cream + Benton’s bacon + banana chips + chocolate
8TH ANNUAL 1 NIGHT 12 KITCHENS
April 29th marks the 8th year for the food event that brings together some of the best chefs in the city with the students of Midwest Culinary Institute (MCI) and their teachers for a fundraiser that to date has generated more than $350,000 in scholarships for those interested in a culinary education.
Guests will have an opportunity to tour the kitchens and talk with chefs as they prepare their featured dish, to watch demonstrations in the state-of-the-art culinary theater, and meet the teaching faculty and MCI students. Dinner is offered by-the-bite from more than 30 tasting stations (check out some of the line-up below), plus wine, beer, and tequila tastings will be available.
General Admission: $100 to include all of the above.
Top Chef Patron: $165 to include all of the above PLUS: Valet Parking; exclusive Summit Restaurant champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception with participating chefs; exclusive access to VIP lounge with special cocktails; souvenir apron signed by chefs; goodie bag.
