The third Monday of January isn’t just a day off work, it’s the day to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s dedication to service, community, and racial justice. Here are some events around town for those who wish to take part in the holiday.
MLK Coalition of Cincinnati’s 50th Anniversary Program and March
The Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition of Cincinnati is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a “Jubilee for MLK’s Beloved Community.” The event will feature a commemorative march starting at the Freedom Center at 10:30 a.m. and a program at Music Hall at noon featuring keynote speaker Hasan Kwame Jeffries. National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Free Admission
Enjoy a free visit to the Freedom Center for a Fifth Third Community Day in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy. 17th Annual MLK Day Blood Drive
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center hosts Hoxworth’s 17th annual MLK Day blood drive. All donors will receive an eGift card along with Hoxworth joggers and a free MLK T-shirt. The Cincinnati Museum Center honors MLK with a full day of activities including drum performances, science labs, lectures, panels, tours, and Black history trivia. Local Black-owned businesses will also be set up in the rotunda. Marc Fields Plays Black Composers on King’s Day
Local jazz legend Marc Fields will lead a quartet performing music of Black composers in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. This performance is also the kickoff for Jazz at the Memo’s 2025 season. Tickets are $12. 7 p.m., Memorial Hall, 1225 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine
