It’s the first weekend of August and with it comes plenty of concerts, festivals, and parties to attend. Here are just a fews to consider.
It’s the 10th anniversary of Cincinnati’s swing dance exchange. The weekend begins on Thursday at the SwinGallery Weekly Dance at Liberty Exhibition Hall. On Saturday morning, dancers will learn the Saint Louis Shim Sham at Hoffner Lodge. On Sunday, attendees can enjoy a social coffee hour at the Carnegie Center followed by the official After Party at Hoffner Lodge. Registration price varies by event. Paddlefest’s annual free Friday night party is back to celebrate outdoor recreation with live music, gear sales, over 70 exhibitors, food and drink trucks, competitions, raffles, a Kids Zone, Paddlefest merch, and more. Art After Dark: Fashion Forward
This month’s Art After Dark is celebrating Elizabeth Hawes: Radical American Fashion with an evening dedicated to style. In addition to free after-hours gallery access and tours, attendees will get to enjoy designs from DAAP fashion students, an interactive art experience with Sew Valley, a themed photo booth, music by DJ Arie, food from El Barril, and cash bars. Also known as “the dance party for ladies who have sh*t to do in the morning,” this reasonably-timed rave for the girls, gays, and theys is back at Ludlow Garage. Partiers can expect a lineup of ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s hits and hit the dance floor while raising money for the Susie Lee Legacy Fund. Tickets are $40. DJ Marshmello will be playing a concert at GABP following the Reds’ Friday face-off against the Pittsburgh Pirates. To celebrate the 25th year of the nation’s largest paddling celebration, the festival will attempt to break the world record for Largest Paddle Craft Party. Grab your kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards and head to the Ohio River to row, race, and set records alongside fellow water sports enthusiasts. Registration is $100. Shuttles will be available from finish line parking lots to Schmidt Boat Ramp. There will be a festival for all finishers from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Gilday Riverside Park. The city of Springdale is honoring its pretzel production legacy with a festival featuring over 11 different food trucks with pretzel-inspired treats, kids games and crafts, an adult fun zone with beer pong and a mechanical bull, live music, and a muddy family fun run.
