Top 5 Events This Week: Aug. 6-12

The headlining event this week is surely the über-international Western & Southern Open tennis tourney. But don’t miss horseback riding in the park, an interactive murder mystery, the Art Museum’s stash of prints, and an al fresco jazz series.

1. The Western & Southern Open
The Western & Southern Open brings the world’s best tennis players (both ladies and gents) to Mason’s Lindner Family Tennis Center. It’s one of only a handful of such prestigious events, putting it one step below the grand slams. We’re kind of a big deal. August 11–19, Lindner Family Tennis Center, cincytennis.com

2. Washington Park Jazz Series
Now that OTR’s Washington Park is up and running, you’ll find live “Jazz in the Park” there every week this month. This week, check out local jazz veteran Steve Schmidt. Aug 9, Washington Park, 1230 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, washingtonpark.org

3. Winton Woods Summer Riding Lessons
Looking for a new hobby that also includes an enormous animal? Hamilton County Parks’ Riding Center offers group, private, and semi-private horseback riding lessons all this summer. Learn everything from English to Western in the pretty setting of Winton Woods park. Thru Aug 6, register online: greatparks.org/recreation/equestrian/lesson_registration.html

4. Dial “M” for Monmouth
The Monmouth Players present an “interactive” murder mystery. No, they don’t choose an audience member to die, but they do get the crowd involved to examine clues, interrogate suspects, and finally decide who done the deed. August & 6 at Monmouth Theatre, 636 Monmouth, Newport, (859) 655-9140,  monmouththeatre.com/events.html

5. Printmaking Today
This Cincinnati Art Museum exhibition features a range of both modern and traditional printmaking works from the permanent collection. Thru Aug 19 at Cincinnati Art Museum, Eden Park, cincinnatiartmuseum.org
