Ten Thousand Villages' Annual Rug Event

Like pretty things? Like moral justification to buy pretty things? This is your week!

Volunteer-run, 100-percent-fair-trade Ten Thousand Villages starts its annual rug event today, and it runs through September 13. They truck in more than 300 rugs, ranging in size from 2 x 3 feet to 10 x 14. You get a quality Bunyaad rug; the makers of said rug are treated well and paid fairly. Which is good, because handknotting these things is no joke. The store can tell you exactly who made your rug, so it will already be storied before that cranberry sauce–spilling fiasco this Thanksgiving.

Get the details here, and go to the store September 10 at 7 p.m. to learn how the rugs are made and how fair trade works (call first to RSVP).
