Since 2009, Crafty Supermarket has been spreading the handmade phenomenon around Cincinnati’s neighborhoods, offering hip DIY wares sold by the artists themselves. “The handmade movement is something that I’ve seen really alive in other cities, but I didn’t see it here,” says Chris Davis, the Fabricate storeowner who has helped organize the market since its first show. “Now there’s a whole movement of crafting, and it speaks out against big box consumerism.” Each year, Crafty Supermarket hosts two juried shows, and the upcoming Holiday Show on November 23 will showcase 80 artists in the dramatic Music Hall Ballroom—their largest market to date.
