Becky Finger opened her first resale store in 1992. Since then, her business has grown to three different resale concepts and 20 stores throughout the Cincinnati and Dayton markets. Among the Fingers’ nine Once Upon A Child stores, 6 million children’s items are bought and sold each year. In 1998, the Fingers expanded their business to include Plato’s Closet, a resale shop for teens and 20-somethings. They now own and operate seven Plato’s Closet stores in the market. In 2012 they opened their newest concept, Clothes Mentor, a resale shop for women. Clothes Mentor has grown to four locations, with more expected to open in the future. Along the way, Becky’s children graduated college, and one by one, they joined the family business. Each now plays a role in making sure their stores provide a safe, convenient, and fun way to buy and sell gently used items. The Fingers believe the success of the business comes from paying “cash on the spot” to sellers and their commitment to excellent customer service.
