Girls take center stage at Saint Ursula Academy, where teachers create a culture of achievement and students are celebrated for experimenting with learning strategies, projects and ideas.
According to research from the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, an all-girls environment creates a supportive atmosphere where girls feel comfortable taking risks and solving problems, which leads to higher levels of self-awareness and critical thinking. Pair that with Saint Ursula’s talented and nurturing faculty to create a proven formula for success.
Saint Ursula boasts a 43-class selection of college preparatory, honors and AP courses in the STEM field. Each student can take part in one-on-one scheduling with her academic counselor, allowing her to map her course of study based on her area of interest. The program also features STEM electives, including robotics, forensics, engineering, web development, and more.
Whether students are pursuing an education in the STEM field or something completely different, each young woman can feel confident knowing she will enrich her life, academic and leadership skills at St. Ursula.
Celia, a St. Ursula senior, says the program opportunities, leadership education and faculty support helped her change her mindset about leadership over her four years and inspired her to take action.
As a freshman, Celia thought that to become a leader she had to be the captain of a sports team or class president. But she knew those options weren’t meant for her, and she figured she could exhibit leadership in other ways. So, she signed up for extracurricular clubs during her first two years. By junior year, Celia narrowed down to three clubs that she was committed to.
“I am a leader because I have stuck with these clubs and formed a strong bond with the people in them since my freshman year. I’m now one of the co-presidents of my own club, and I couldn’t be happier,” Celia says. “Being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean being the face of your school. You can be a leader in so many aspects of your life — you just have to find the one that works for you.”
Now, because of her leadership initiative and the support of Saint Ursula, Celia is prepared for the next step.
Today, Saint Ursula graduates are working in professional roles such as physicians, lawyers, clothing and jewelry designers and executives. Some graduates are serving their communities and the world through non-profit leadership and work, while others have found work as professional athletes and Olympians.
No matter what path, each Saint Ursula graduate has a foundation to make an impact as a thinker, leader, nurturer of herself and others and a prophet who inspires others to make a difference through choices, words and actions.
