Now that we’re experiencing some nice weather, your kids are probably bouncing off the walls. Channel that energy and join the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati and Great Parks of Hamilton County for Healthy Kids Day at Parky’s Farm on April 23, rain or shine. Get the troops moving with a climbing wall, bounce houses, relay and obstacle courses, and fitness classes. They’ll also get to dabble with face painting, visit farm animals, and take a tractor ride. Activities are free for everyone. (Even the parking is free.)
Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative, with more than 2,000 Ys all over the U.S. participating. That makes it the nation’s largest health day to focus on children. The hope is that the fun you and your family experience on this day will inspire you to stay healthy and active all summer long, which can have benefits that last into the next school year. The Y’s research shows that when the school year ends, children’s body mass index (BMI) increases nearly twice as fast as it does during the school year. Kids can also experience “summer slump” learning losses. What helps address critical gaps in health and education? Staying active and engaged. Luckily the Y can get your family in the groove. Let Healthy Kids Day kick off a healthy summer of fun for your family.
