Industry insiders know that Kevin Hart of Hart & Cru, along with his mentor, Gordon Hue of Wine Craft, are committed to connecting local restaurants and their diners to winemakers zealously committed to their craft. Tomorrow night, the pair will host a tasting in Over-the-Rhine featuring Michael Schmelzer of Monte Bernardi, located in the heart of Chianti Classico. Schmelzer, who is an enologist—along with his sister Jennifer, who manages the commercial aspect of the business—is devoted to the sangiovese grape, biodynamic farming, and the Chianti Classico region. The two have become fast favorites of the New York sommelier set for producing wines with honest fruit that are priced for everyday drinking.
