Fifty West Brewing Company

Outside of the 1827 house that Fifty West renovated in 2012 sits a 1972 orange Volkswagen van used to distribute beer. Their aim: Innovate, with a solid nod to tradition.

Once seated inside the taproom beneath the hefty exposed-wood beams, order the brewmaster’s choice flight ($9 for six three-ounce pours) and sample what Blake Horsburgh considers the best on tap right now—and note the road trip–related names. Their far-better-than-bar-food dishes can help you soak it all up—like the blueberry arugula salad, sausage-stuffed mushrooms, and pan-seared cobia from their seasonal menu. If you stop in on Tuesday, ask about the penny flips. You order a beer from one of the 10 to 15 on tap, call heads or tails, and see what the fates (or bartenders) flip. If you guess correctly, you get a one-cent beer. So tip generously. And maybe have another round. 7668 Wooster Pike, Columbia Township, (513) 834-8789, fiftywestbrew.com
