Beer, Chili, and Pappy (!) at Cork ’N Bottle

cork n bottle chili cook off 2016Cork ’N Bottle is hosting a chili cook-off with quite a prize: the chance to purchase a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year bourbon for $75 (they can’t just give this stuff away, folks, that’s a thousand-dollar bottle, if you could actually find one in the wild). Fumble-fingers in the kitchen? Spectators can get in on the Pappy action, too—buy a ticket to the tasting, and you’re automatically entered to win one of two chances to buy a bottle of Pappy 10 year bourbon for $50.

Pappy’s a powerful draw, but there are a few other elements that make this event worth adding to your calendar: Chili competitors get a Rhinegeist or MadTree beer in their registration packet to use in crafting their recipes. Judging the efforts will be Orchids at Palm Court’s Executive Chef Todd Kelly and Eli’s BBQ founder Elias Leisring. (They’ve also contributed to the prizes available: second place gets a grand tasting wine dinner for two at Orchids; third nabs a private Cork single barrel bourbon tasting for a party of six, served with Eli’s famous BBQ.) And of course chili isn’t the only thing attendees get to taste—exclusive beers from Rhinegeist and MadTree, plus Cork exclusive single barrel bourbons and a variety of wines.

The whole thing goes down Saturday, January 30 at 2 pm at Cork’s Crescent Springs location, 584 Buttermilk Pike, (859) 261-8333. You can purchase tickets online here.
