Fans of departed retail store and food bar Park + Vine—which closed in 2017 after a 10-year run on Main Street—will be pleased to learn that the chef behind its much-loved vegan fare has released a cookbook. Chef Zef Vesel isn’t based in Cincinnati anymore, but says he wrote the cookbook (which includes recipes for the OMFG burger and vegan goetta) to give back to the vegan community he served for so long. “I felt very, very happy to give that to Cincy before heading out West,” he says. We’re glad he did: Just one waft of the vegan goetta’s bubbling mixture of oats, quinoa, and a spice blend of cumin, paprika, and chili powder will remind you of the real deal. Not to mention the buffalo tofu sandwich, which he says consistently brought customers back for more. Vegan or not, the recipes in the book will make even the most unadventurous carnivores understand why the store was so well loved. Copies of the cookbook are available at local Joseph-Beth bookstores, as well as OTR’s Artichoke and the Contemporary Arts Center. Grab a copy and get ready to spice up your meat-monotonous life.
