Tacos Locos

Tacos Locos needs marketing help. Last time we checked, it had a meager 16 Facebook fans. The business’s phone number is just owner Juan Rosales’s cell. And the truck (actually, it’s more of a trailer) recently changed permanent locations without alerting the public. Tacos Locos is now situated in the parking lot of a mini-mart across from Pleasant Ridge Montessori, where it’s difficult to see the handwritten sign from the road. All that said, Rosales’s simple menu is loaded with more than enough authentic Mexican flavor to make his food worth seeking out. The tacos, which the truck’s business cards boast are “los mejores de Cincinnati,” come with your choice of meat—steak, pork, chicken, or beef tongue—on a corn tortilla with onion, cilantro, lime, and a side of cucumber to cleanse the palate. You can’t go wrong with any of the tender meat options, or with either of the salsas, which both provide just the right amount of heat. Tacos Locos also serves burritos, quesadillas, and tortas, each dish with its own unique flavor profile—a delicious departure from the predictable and redundant recipes at dime-a-dozen Mexican chains. Of particular note is the torta, a sandwich served with your choice of meat and a tasty combination of onion, tomato, avocado, jalapeño, cheese, refried beans, and mayo. It’s everything wonderful about Mexican food on a thick, chewy bun. With a little help from some business-savvy friends, Tacos Locos has the burrito bona fides to make it big. Then again, maybe it’s best to keep it a secret.
