Gourmet is such an off-putting word, especially when used in conjunction with take-away. It smacks of the expensive and the pretentious. Fortunately, Take Home Tano is neither. Just a few blocks down the road from his Tano Bistro in Loveland, Chef Gaetano Williams runs what he calls a “gourmet meal market.” It’s a notch up from home cooking, and there’s nothing pretentious about the year-round favorite here: meatloaf.

Yeah, your basic secret-ingredient meatloaf (ground chuck and ground pork) like mom used to make. Another hot seller is the tender potato-crusted chicken in a horseradish wine sauce. It’s worth noting that the portions at Take Home Tano aren’t skimpy—their small feeds two and their medium can easily accommodate a family of four.

Kids get special attention at Take Home Tano: The mac-and-cheese is made with whole-grain pasta and the panko-breaded Amish chicken tenders are actually tender and juicy. Take Home Tano also does a brisk breakfast business with quick pickups like a bacon, egg, and cheddar wrap or a fluffy turkey, spinach, bacon, and Swiss omelette. And their biscuits and gravy are scratch made, right down to the sausage. Open at every mealtime (except Sundays), you can stop in for a working lunch of the pulled pork with fresh blackberry barbecue sauce and be the envy of cubicle culture. You might even run into Chef Williams. After all, it’s his name on the door.
