Road Trip: Ohio Brew Week in Athens

It’s like a summer family reunion for Ohio beers, and you’re invited. Craft brewers from around the state will convene in Athens July 10–18 to celebrate (and taste) local suds and local food, with many dishes specially prepared with said suds. Athens has for awhile now been an epicenter of the local food movement, and Ohio Brew Week coincides with—and is teaming up with—the Real Food Real Local conference and the 30 Mile Meal.

Throughout the week, there’s a whole host of events from morning to night: brewery tours, beer tastings, speakers and meet-and-greets, a homebrew competition, restaurant specials (as well as a “Brew BQ”), live music every night at Jackie O’s Pub and Brewery, and more (looking at you, Cleveland Indians vs. Cincinnati Reds and All-Star Game watch parties). Not to miss: On July 18, the Last Call Street Festival closes it all out by shutting down Court Street for beer (clearly), food, art, and live music. It’s like Oktoberfest…with way less mess.

Plus: free parking in the city garage. Because you are not in Cincinnati anymore.
