Thirty minutes south of downtown Nashville is probably not where you’re expecting to find your new favorite vintage. Set aside all (completely valid) fears of terrible fruit wine, and prepare to be surprised at Arrington Vineyards. The 91-acre property has 17 acres of grapes and ships in others to be fermented and bottled on-site. It’s easy to grab a seat at the tasting bar to sip eight wines for $14 (four for $7), but missing out on the rolling hills would be a mistake—one you can remedy with the four-pour picnic tasting or by buying a bottle (they’ll open it for you and give you cups) to sip outdoors, or on the heated porch in colder months. Our opinion: Don’t skip the Syrah. Pre-game with a pit stop in Nolensville on your way down for some light antiquing and to stock up on picnic grub from The Feed Mill, an Amish market, to pair with your grapes. arringtonvineyards.com; nolensvillefeedmill.com
