”This job, it’s not mundane.”

Years on job: Four

Shift: 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Do you prefer to work a night shift? I do prefer to work at night because, primarily, it works well for my family, and it’s just the most fun. It’s better interaction with people; it’s better entertainment value. This job, it’s not mundane. There’s never two days that are the same—it always feels fresh.

Would you say that the world is flipped at a casino, where nighttime is when everyone wakes up? Casino life is 24/7, so it’s busier at night because when everyone else is playing, we are working. Night is obviously our busiest time but there are dealers who do a 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. shift.

What are the advantages of working at night? I always joke with friends that while they’re getting stuck in daytime traffic, when I’m leaving here there’s nobody on the road. It’s nice because I have about a 10-minute drive to home so it gives me time to decompress. You have the road pretty much to yourself. Just me and a few trucks. My son is a swimmer, so he has early morning swim meets. I can make all of those, so that’s certainly an advantage.
