Celebrate Mom, Hill Country-Style

Because nothing says Mother’s Day like clogging.

Coney Island hosts the 47th Annual Appalachian Festival on Mother’s Day weekend, May 6 – 8. In addition crafts and artisans, storytelling workshops, entertainers with names like Shotgun Holler and Sugarfoot Cloggers, and, of course, barbeque, there will be a variety of living history demonstrations to serve as a reminder to kids and partners alike that loading the dishwasher every once in a while really is a privilege, rather than a chore. Open fire cooking? Flint knapping? School marming? I’d prefer to watch, thanks.

Festival admission doesn’t include Coney Island’s classic rides, but between learning how to line dance and eating your toddler’s weight in kettle corn, you might be too busy for the carousel.
