Cincinnati Magazine is currently seeking freelance food writers. Selected writers would be responsible for producing short reviews of restaurants and bars in Greater Cincinnati for print as well as newsy stories about the city’s dining scene for the magazine’s website. The size of the print Dine section varies by month therefore the flow of the work will be irregular, but selected writers will be encouraged to pitch news pieces on the local food scene as often as they like. These writers may also be asked to participate in food- and drink-focused cover packages.
We are looking for writers who are familiar with the local food scene and its players and can both report and critique. A culinary background is not necessary, but previous food-related writing experience is a must. Our food philosophy here at Cincinnati Magazine is to expose readers to the restaurants we love and find new favorites to highlight. (This is not a role for the next Anton Ego. Being overly critical is easy. Ask yourself “Do I have the temperament to find balance in my evaluations?”)
Qualifications:
- Background in journalism or communications (preferably with a strong emphasis on food writing)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Open to trying new foods
- Attention to detail
- Must be based in Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky
Does this sound like you or like someone you know? If so, please submit your resume and three to five food-related clips to Aiesha D. Little, Cincinnati Magazine’s senior editor, at alittle@cincinnatimagazine.com by May 23, 2025.
