Good Luck: Week 9 NFL Picks

116

I righted the ship a little bit last week, going 8-5. I was a combined 6-20 the two weeks prior, so being over .500 was an unfamiliar feeling. I was helped by two close calls going my way. I took the Jaguars (+10.5), and they lost to the Texans by 10. I took the 49ers (-9.5), and they beat the Browns by 10. When it comes to picking games that will be decided by exactly 10 points, I’m money.

I’m sticking with the quick picks format from last week, with a longer explanation for my Bengals opinion. Last week, they surprised me with their first win in Seattle since 1994. The schedule is about to get a whole bunch harder. (How have the Bengals played only one division game this far into the season?) But I would not be surprised at this point if they could scrape together three more wins, finish 9-7, and sneak into the playoffs.

Falcons (-7.5) over Colts
Jets (+2.5) over Bills
Browns (+11.5) over Texans
Chiefs (-4.5) over Dolphins
49ers (-3.5) over Redskins
Saints (-8.5) over Buccaneers
Cowboys (-12.5) over Seahawks
Giants (+9.5) over Patriots
Cardinals (-1.5) over Rams
Packers (-5.5) over Chargers
Ravens (+3.5) over Steelers
Bears (+8.5) over Eagles

Bengals (+3.5) over Titans — The Bengals’ resilient left coast win last week really impressed me. I’m ready to admit that I was wrong about this team. Honestly, more of us probably should have seen this coming. Sure, they have a rookie quarterback, but as much as we media types don’t like to admit it, this game is about more than quarterbacks. And at the other 21 offensive and defensive positions, the Bengals feature a lot of quality veteran players, especially on defense.

Record last week: 8-5
Record overall: 58-58
Record picking Bengals games against the spread: 3-4
Record picking Bengals games straight up: 2-5
