All Hail the Tweens

157

The Cincinnati-based band Tweens full-length debut features 11 songs with declarative titles like “Want U,” “Be Mean,” “Girlfriend,” and “Stoner.” And their music is nearly that straightforward—a virulent slab of fuzzy garage pop. Bridget Battle’s sweet-and-sour vocals and terse guitar riffs are anchored by drummer Jerri Queen and bassist Peyton Copes, who clearly have more than a passing interest in classic doo-wop. The trio will support the self-titled album (which arrives April 8 via Frenchkiss Records) with extensive touring, including a stop at this summer’s Nelsonville Music Festival.
